Assignment Two!

Hello again!

For assignment two, i had to photograph a public space near or in Amsterdam trice (three times ;-) ). I had some problems gettin my pics online but they should be on right now. I've took pictures of the Vondelpark in Amsterdam. I chose the park because i find a park a very interesting place. People from all cultures and ages come here for different reasons. Some to enjoy the weather, some to run around trying to lose calories, some to beg for money and sleep on a bench.

The Vondelpark was found in 1864 when C.P. van Eeghen bought the area. The park was designed by (garden-)architect Jan David Zocher. In 1865 the park became public and the park was named "The New Park". When a statue of poet Vondel was placed in 1867, the park got renamed to "Vondelpark". This later became the official name.

Note: the quality of the pictures is mega-lame because i took 'em with my cellphone.

Private? Spaces

Or last assignment was the opposite of the public space. Namely the private. Check our presentation:

Drunk & Unemployed Toon

My first blog!

Steven, Lars and I interviewed different people at a taxistop at Amstelstation. The environment consists of a field with flowers with crowded citylife surrounding it.

These are our foundings:

The different people shared the same opinion. They found the taxistop too noisy and crowded. The reason of being there was to wait for a taxi and not to enjoy the environment.

Scenario 1:

Giel, 36 years old, is a yoga teacher that waits at the taxistop every wednesday. He’s fond of the flowers on the field but he dislikes the fact that there’s so much traffic.

Scenario 2:

Angelique and Lisa, both 18 years old, are waiting for the bus. They do this every day when they return home from school. They hate the fact that the trashcans are always full and they would love some more entertainment while waiting.

Scenario 3:

Toon, 53 years old, is unemployed and visits the taxistop every day. He used to come here with his dog that passed away two years ago. He loves the memory of his dog at this spot, but would love to see more green and silence.

Our solution is a big silence booth surrounding the nature spot. A glass dome that keeps the noise away. It’s a peaceful place where you can wait for a taxi or bus. Inside are some entertainment and information facilities. Examples are: urbanscreening, taxi and bus information, and on demand-television.
